Green Bay Crime Rate

For a population of just over 100,000, Green Bay’s crime rate is much lower than an average city in the U.S. This is one of the main reasons Green Bay was voted as the best city to live in the U.S. For example, in a nearby big city like Milwaukee, there is no comparison. The chances of you being a victim of a crime are very low, and overall, residents feel very safe here.

Places and things to stay away from in Green Bay

If you plan on renting, stay away from Lexington Mangement; it is the worst-rated rental management company in Green Bay.

Do not rent or buy a home within a 1 mile of JBS or Sanimax, as the odor can be very unpleasant. JBS is the worst smelling of the two, especially during summer because it is a cow processing plant.

Do not live anywhere close to Day Street, Western Ave, or Imperial Lane, we will go over reasons why later in this article.

East Side vs West Side

The East Side is a little rough on the edges, with character. The East Side has its rough-looking areas because the homes are more dated than those on the West Side. Although it does have a lot of older homes, it has a lot of new construction as well.

Neighborhoods to avoid on the East Side:

  • Joanne’s Skatepark – This area is full of unsupervised children and is home to some of the worst schools in Green Bay, East High School and Washington Middle School.
  • Farlin Park – A lot of low-income housing, crime, and right next to one of the worst streets in the entire city, Day Street.

The best neighborhoods to live on the East Side are:

  • Ledgeview
  • Bellevue
  • Allouez

West Side

The West Side is much cleaner and more modern-looking; it’s hard to find a bad neighborhood on the West Side. The West Side is where Lambeau Field is located; the West Side of Green Bay has more new construction homes and is quickly growing.

The only downside to living on the West Side is the traffic on game days, and the only area to avoid is Green Bay West Highschool, the worst school in Green Bay.

What are the safest neighborhoods in Green Bay?

  • West De Pere –  Both sides of De Pere are nice, especially West De Pere by the river.
  • Hobart – Residents feel very safe living here, mostly all-new construction.
  • Suamico – Highly desired school district; higher-income families live here.

Is the area near Lambeau Field safe?

The neighborhood near Lambeau Field is called Ashwaubenon, and it is not only safe but one the best places to live. It attracts tourists from all over the country, and older homes have been purchased and remodeled. The property values near Lambeau Field are the highest in the area because of the proximity to the stadium. Ashwaubenon is the most highly desired neighborhood because of all the shopping, entertainment, restaurants, etc.

Bottom Line: Ashwaubenon is extremely safe, clean, and a highly desirable place to live in Green Bay.

Is Downtown Green Bay safe?

Downtown Green Bay was abandoned for many years after the collapse of the Port Plaza Mall. Bay Park Mall was built in Ashwaubenon and drove all the traffic to the city’s West Side near Lambeau Field. This left Downtown Green Bay empty. In recent years, Downtown Green Bay has come alive again with the construction of new luxury apartment buildings on E Walnut St. and N Washington St. This attracted a lot of new restaurants and bars to pop up. What was once an empty plot of land surrounded by old buildings is now being redeveloped with high-end apartments.

Bottom Line: Downtown Green Bay was once an old abandoned neighborhood, and now it’s making a huge comeback. A safe and modern place to live.

What are the worst neighborhoods in Green Bay?

There are no entirely bad neighborhoods in Green Bay, only bad pockets in the city where crime is much more common. This means only a certain block or building of this area is a problem area. Green Bay doesn’t have the problems of bigger cities like Milwaukee or Chicago where an entire section of the city is crippled with gang violence. This isn’t the case in Green Bay.
