What is the Green Bay Botanical Garden

The Green Bay Botanical Garden is a 47-acre garden filled with over 120,000 different types of plants and flowers. Its history dates back almost 50 years. What once was an empty plot of land owned by NWTC College is where families get together, couples get married, and students take their senior photos.

During the winter, the entire garden is decorated with over 350,000 lights, a process that starts in October and takes 6 to 7 weeks to set up. All of the designs throughout the garden are unique and custom-made; nothing is purchased from stores.

The Green Bay Botanical Garden is where parents can take their children to learn about plants and wildlife. While you’re there, you’ll be able to spot squirrels, exotic fish, butterflies, bees, etc., that kids will enjoy.

Why Visit?

Kids love it, and it’s an inexpensive activity to do with the entire family. There are photo areas to take pictures with your family or significant other. You will get hit by all different fragrances from lavender, rose, and even oregano! It’s perfect for a day with the little ones, the kids will enjoy exploring the cottage gardens and hidden trails. There are even little trampolines and slides in the play area. If this is your first time visiting, pack a swimsuit for the kids because there are water areas for them to play.

When to Visit

The garden is open year-round; make sure to check their hours because they change depending on the season. Events are happening all the time. If you want to catch a yoga class, wildlife class, or storytime for the kids, check their calendar for events. The busiest times are weekends, so it’s recommended to come on a weekday so you can avoid lines and crowds. Spring/summer is the best time to visit and see the most wildlife and plants.

Visting in the winter is the best time to go for a romantic evening, the entire garden is decorated in lights that light up the night.

Tips

Bring comfortable shoes or boots because there is a lot of walking on both paved and mulched paths. Pack snacks, especially for kids, because food options onsite are limited. Check the weather and be prepared for any weather changes; visitors often spend 2-3 hours here. Lastly, bring a water bottle to stay hydrated, there will be stations to fill up your water bottle throughout the garden.
